Great Sorrow, a Russian rock band, was founded in the former Soviet Union, in 1990. Based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Great Sorrow released it’s first album in 1993.

Why did you decide to play the electric guitar: The first time I heard the electric guitar was at a Pioneer Camp gathering. (The pioneers were the Soviet Union’s version of the Boy Scouts.) A small band played for us and I was staring at the guitar player throughout the whole performance. I cannot explain it, but it changed my whole life. I had to learn how to play the electric guitar.
